Reverend James Jobst

 

Pastor James Jobst (or Pastor Jim as everyone calls him) will be concluding his 15th year as an ordained minister in the LCMS and has been serving as the Mission Developer and Associate Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church since June of 2001.  He is the South Campus Pastor serving approximately 240 members in the Basehor, Tonganoxie and Bonner Springs Communities. 


Pastor Jim is celebrating 23 blessed years of marriage this August to Vivian.  Vivian is in her 6th year teaching 1st grade at Basehor Elementary School.  Their home is in Tonganoixe.  They have two beautiful daughters Krista and Beth.  Krista recently returned from being in Tanzania, Africa serving with Student Partnership Worldwide (SPW) for 9 months in village helping with health education. She plans to take an African studies major at KU.  Beth loves Jazz and concert band and choir and participates in many of the High School music groups as well as sings and plays instruments in the Praise Team and Band at Trinity – South Campus.   


Pastor Jim’s first call was to Resurrection Lutheran in Spring, Texas before coming to Trinity. Pastor Jim graduated from Concordia Seminary in 1995 with a Master’s of Divinity Degree. He also has a certification in Clinical Pastoral Education from La Clede Groves in St. Louis, Missouri.  Before Seminary he served in church work at Camp Lone Star part of the Texas District of the Lutheran church in La Grange, Texas for 1 year.  Prior to Camp ministry he served as a multi-grade Lutheran Elementary school teacher and Jr. High PE and coach at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas for 2 years, and another 6 months as the Director of Evangelism and Youth.  He also has 1 ½ years serving as a resident counselor at Jerry Rabiner’s Memorial Boy’s Ranch in Ft. Dodge, Iowa after graduating from Concordia College in St. Paul, Minnesota with a liberal arts degree and minors in Educational Psychology and Biblical Languages. 


Pastor Jim grew up on his Dad and Mom’s family farm in Madison County, Iowa and attended Earlham Schools.  He has three siblings in health and church professions.  Pastor Jim enjoys all athletics especially football, basketball and tennis.  He enjoys music and singing, plays guitar, and enjoys God’s creation growing tomatoes, flowers, sightseeing, watching sunsets and sunrises as well as the changing of the seasons. He loves sharing his faith and the love of Christ most of all.  His favorite book of course is the Bible leaning towards the Gospel of John, Paul’s letters to the Romans, and the book of Isaiah as his favorite readings but is blessed by all 66 books of the Bible pointing to Jesus as the Way, and the Truth, and the Life!
